Objectives of ReefSystems Foundation

Purpose: The restoration of coral reefs and associated marine ecosystems, and anything related or conducive to these goals.

Fishing poses significant challenges to the ocean. Coral reefs are destroyed by the trawling nets of fishing boats. Tropical coral reefs are the foundation of a healthy marine ecosystem, providing food, shelter, and breeding grounds for numerous organisms. Without coral, local marine life disappears, leaving a barren seabed. Ultimately, this affects the food supply of people dependent on fisheries.

Artificial reefs are deployed to restore ecosystems. Placing underwater structures provides organisms a place to grow, and marine life a place to seek shelter. Corals can grow on these structures, facilitating the recovery and improvement of the entire ecosystem.

In many areas requiring reef restoration, the local economy is weak. The local population often lacks the funds and/or knowledge to sustainably manage their natural environment (the coral reef). This is the target audience of the foundation.

Involving local communities in reef restoration creates local employment opportunities. Besides boosting the economy, engaging local people fosters a sense of responsibility to care for and treat new ecosystems properly, creating a sustainable future for both people and nature.

Activities to be Carried Out

Members of ReefSystems Foundation will work to restore coral reefs and ecosystems through various activities:

Fundraising

Identifying potential reef restoration sites

Collaborating with local project partners

Obtaining permits

Establishing a reef production workshop

Providing training for local populations

Offering jobs to locals for reef restoration

Installing artificial reefs

Initiating research in collaboration with knowledge partners such as universities

Actively promoting the foundation's activities

Income Generation Methods

ReefSystems Foundation will acquire income through:

Crowdfunding campaigns

ReefSystems Foundation holds quarterly meetings. All strategic decisions and expenses will be discussed and require approval from all board members. Coral specialists from Wageningen University will serve as advisors in the decision-making process. The foundation's income will be raised and allocated based on specific projects. In the case of a budget surplus, the remaining funds will be returned to donors or directly invested in expanding the project.
